Position Overview
Ledgent Finance & Accounting's client is actively seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Property Tax Accountant (contract role) in Georgia. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of corporate property tax compliance, reporting, budgeting, and analysis for multiple entities. This position involves ensuring timely and accurate preparation of property tax filings, managing assessments and appeals, and providing ongoing support to leadership regarding property tax liabilities and forecasts.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and file annual real and personal property tax returns, including abatements and exemption schedules.
- Maintain detailed documentation of property assets, valuations, and tax assessments across multiple jurisdictions.
- Review and reconcile monthly and annual property tax accruals, journal entries, and related general ledger accounts.
- Support the property tax budgeting process, including forecasting, variance analysis, and preparation of supporting schedules.
- Review property tax statements and coordinate payments, ensuring compliance with all due dates and reporting requirements.
- Assist with property tax appeals, audits, and settlements by providing accurate data and analysis.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure asset records align with tax reporting requirements.
- Research and interpret property tax regulations to ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Recommend process improvements for efficiency, accuracy, and documentation related to property tax administration.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 3-6 years of progressive accounting experience, with direct responsibility for property tax compliance and reporting.
- Strong understanding of state and local property tax laws, particularly within Georgia and the surrounding region.
- CPA or candidate preferred but not required.
Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency with property tax systems and ERP/accounting systems.
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
